The Seiler Piano Company may not be as well known as Steinway, Bosendorf, Kawai or Yamaha, but they have a strong history of building pianos that are beautiful to hear and look at!
Seiler uses a combination of traditional, thoroughly unique “Seiler” methods, and modern technology. One of the most those unique aspects is the patented soundboard feature called the Membrator system, used in Seiler’s SE and ED lines. This means that the outside sections of the soundboard are sculpted to be thicker and heavier, forming an internal frame within the soundboard itself. The lighter, inner area becomes the vibrating membrane which is unaffected by the larger soundboard’s attachment to the case. Another feature you can see when you see a Seiler grand next to a classic design is the wider “tail”. The purpose is to create greater soundboard area and support higher tension of longer string length.
At the beginning of the 2010’s, the Seiler began adding another unique feature – varied wood types and finishes to the cabinetry. The sound quality is very much the same, but the look is quite striking and interesting!
