The current Corona Virus (Novel COVID-19) has had a major impact on our world as we know it – and that definitely includes the lives of piano technicians! To that end, the Piano Technicians Guild has made the following suggestions for its members as the work in your homes and other buildings and facilties:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has very specific recommendations for preparation, protection and care. You can view this information at:
Ongoing training and updates don’t cease between Registered Piano Technicians (RPT’s) during environmental conditions such as these. While human contact or proximity may be curtailed, that does not mean that information sharing, suggestions and improvements stop between them. Technology has allowed RPT’s hold meetings via “Zoom” applications online. This allows them to share best practices, strategies and solutions to problems without having to risk sharing this dangerous virus! Everyone benefits – Technicians and clients – when the technicians are able to continue to update each other on latest regulations and strategies for providing their service. We want you to have your piano in the best condition and tuning possible – and still keep everyone healthy and safe!
RPT’s are front-line service providers, and as such, have responsibilities to their clients and themselves to use to most effective safety devices for themselves and accommodations for their clients.
We know that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is in short supply. If you are searching for PPE’s , medical professionals in the US have set up the website “https://findthemasks.com/”. You can help by providing donations so that they can continue to find and provide equipment to help keep professionals safe!
If you are able to sew and are inclined to help out – there are also a number of wonderful tutorials on “https://www.youtube.com/” – that give simple, straightforward instructions for making facemasks. Simply type “face mask patterns” into their “search” function and VOILA! Lots of simple ways to make effective face masks.
We want you all to be able to keep yourselves safe and healthy, and continue to have beautiful music in your lives!
